Master Advisor Training

The Gorilla Advising Academy was formed in the Fall of 2016 as an initiative of Academic Affairs to help support faculty as they in turn support our students.


Develop an academic advisement program to assist faculty/staff build their knowledge and skills in advisement. This initiative will support the Pathway to Prominence Strategic Plan by addressing:

Goal 2 – Student Success

  • Objective 2.3 – Fulfill high expectations for engagement and interaction of students with faculty and staff
  • Objective 2.4 – Enhance student support programs, services, and systems


Increase the quality of academic advising at Pittsburg State University by providing a Master Advisor designation training program for faculty and staff.

Gorilla Advising Academy Council

The Gorilla Advising Academy Council serves as an advisory group that reviews and plans advisor training. Members must have completed the Master Advisor Training workshop and representatives from each college are typically elected to the council. Standing members of the council include the Director of Student Success Programs, the Director of Academic Advising in the Kelce College of Business, the Director and the Faculty Development Specialist from the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology.
