GORILLA WARM-UP is a required “pre-semester” activity for new students. This activity is designed to familiarize you with the campus, the resources and activities available, and generally give you a head start at PSU.
Registration for GORILLA WARM-UP begins at 2:00 p.m. the Sunday before classes begin each fall. Please arrive no later than 2:15 to ensure you have the materials you need. We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and clothing (shorts/t-shirt).
Key to your success here at Pitt State will be the relationships you develop with other students and faculty members and your taking full advantage of the great resources for students. Please use the opportunity that GORILLA WARM-UP provides to get to know the campus and your classmates. It will help you get off to a great start, and remember, attendance is REQUIRED.
If you or your parents have questions, please contact the First Year Programs office at 1-800-854-7488 (option 4) or 620-235-6578.
Academic Success Workshops give YOU some strategies to bridge the gap between the skills you arrived with and the skills your professors are expecting from you in class.
Whether you are studying for a test, writing a paper or preparing a presentation, tutors can help you sharpen your skills and increase your knowledge.
First Year Programs coordinates two different courses for new students: Gorilla Gateway and International Transitions.
From success workshop handouts to academic advisor and advisee responsibilities, we have all of the resources you need to support your success.
The Exploratory Studies Program at Pittsburg State is here to assist students in selecting a major. Many of our students are undecided when they enter college, so having a process and path can help them to pick the major that's right for them!
Student Disability Services provides support services to currently enrolled PSU students with disabilities which substantially impairs one or more major life activities.
Students who have an interest in assisting in the success of their fellow students can find several exciting leadership opportunities in First Year Programs. Our two most important peer-led programs are Pitt CARES Leaders serving our new student orientation program and PEERS Mentor program serving our Gorilla Gateway courses.
